Vice President, Pharma Division
KIRKWOOD LAUNCHES NEW STRATEGIC PHARMA DIVISION
Jesse Kohler to lead new division while continuing to provide hands-on support and strategic thinking to the firm’s clients

Wilmington, MA, March 30, 2023 – Kirkwood, the full-service integrated communications provider, announced the launch of its Strategic Pharma Division, which will leverage the firm’s unique expertise in the rapidly evolving print communications needs of the pharmaceutical industry to drive greater value for its clients. Jesse Kohler has been tapped to lead the new division, taking on the title of Vice President, Pharma Division, as she deepens her focus on meeting the day-to-day, often complex needs of the firm’s bio/pharma clients. Kohler will also continue her role as liaison between Kirkwood and Jet Mail in their partnership for all pharma fulfillment and distribution.

Kohler, who has been with Kirkwood for nearly two decades, will continue to work directly with clients, supporting them from product conception and strategy through design and distribution. With direction from Kohler, Kirkwood has built a dedicated and experienced sales service team to help her continuously improve and streamline the company’s customer service model, which will continue to prioritize Kohler’s ability to bring her strategic thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills to each bio/pharmaceutical client.

“Launching this Strategic Pharma Division will empower our team to deliver even stronger value for our clients in the bio/pharma industry. Personally, I’m excited about this new role because I’ll have the opportunity to continue to work directly with my clients – which I've always found to be incredibly fulfilling – while leading a team that will position our firm for accelerated growth in this important industry,” Kohler said. “Our Division’s new structure will provide more opportunities for me to work closely with each client on creative ways to engineer, develop and deliver their products, and I’ll be backed by a sales service staff with decades of experience to optimize our efficiency and create more value for our clients.”

“After 18 years of working in the bio/pharmaceutical sector, it has become crystal clear that we need to harness our firm’s robust capabilities and target increased support for this part of our business. With her industry expertise and leadership skills, Jesse Kohler is the perfect person to run the new division,” said Chuck Colvin, EVP/Partner, Kirkwood. “Our bio/pharmaceutical vertical continues to expand thanks to Jesse’s proven track record of navigating, growing and maintaining this business. During her tenure, she has handled more than 75 drug launches, supporting her clients as an extension of their marketing team.”

With rapidly evolving regulations and changing patient expectations impacting the pharmaceutical sector, it has become increasingly important to partner with firms that deeply understand the industry for communications, printing, packaging and other patient engagement needs. Kirkwood's new Strategic Pharma Division will include an experienced team devoted to sales, support, packaging design and promotional print, along with marketing, business development and distribution through the Jet Mail partnership.

" In taking on the responsibility of overseeing our Pharma Division, Jesse will continue to meet the complex needs of our bio/pharmaceutical clients while also increasing this segment of our business,” said Mark Nappa, Kirkwood Chief Sales Officer. “She has demonstrated an impressive ability to help customers launch new drugs into the market by providing print materials to help educate healthcare professionals and patients on specific drug indications. Her training in health sciences, biology and marketing combined with her 18 years of sales experience makes her the right leader for our team.”

Kohler was a student in Quinnipiac University's nursing school when a marketing course changed her career trajectory. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, including a double minor in biology and marketing, she joined Kirkwood in 2005. Kohler lives in New England with her husband and two daughters.  In her spare time, she plays competitive tennis and coaches lacrosse.

For 10 consecutive years, Kirkwood, established in 1973, has been recognized as one of the top printing companies in North America by Printing Impressions Magazine. Constantly renewing its commitment to environmental stewardship, Kirkwood has been a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) printer since 2008.

KIRKWOOD ADDS SECOND HEIDELBERG PRESS IN 18 MONTHS

Picture
WILMINGTON, MA October 13, 2022 – At a time when the print industry is consolidating and print companies are diversifying their portfolios, Kirkwood is making a BOLD and significant move to increase UV printing, doubling down on print media with a monster 8-Color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 UV Perfector Press.

With a steadfast commitment to continuous investment in the latest, most productive/environmentally conscious technology, KIRKWOOD continues to grow and expand its printing capabilities. The 49-year-old, privately owned commercial printer KIRKWOOD announces the installation of a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 Press with DRYSTAR technology, located in their Wilmington, MA facility.

Heidelberg, as a manufacturer, is regarded as a pioneer in ecological printing and has developed solutions to eliminate or reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and process emissions as well as reduce waste. The Speedmaster XL 106 is recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly presses in its class, delivering the smallest carbon footprint in the print industry, this press is further advancing our sustainability and environmental efforts.

“It is amazing in just a couple of years; Heidelberg has again added new technologies which help us with both short-run work as well as projects with higher page counts, which have many make readies. We will now run projects very quickly and efficiently. This press gives KIRKWOOD 60% additional capacity and reduces our waste by 50%, over older presses – helping the customer and of course, the environment,” Chuck Colvin - Kirkwood Partner, adds.

"I love this machine," comments Bill Elwell, Pressroom Manager for Kirkwood. "The perfecting and UV capabilities mean our press operators can print faster, and customers can have shorter press checks. At full speed, we'll be able to print as fast as, (16) 8.5x11 pages at 15,000 sheets per hour on both sides simultaneously, or 240,000 pages per hour." Elwell adds.

"The need for high-quality print media to drive marketing and sales continues to be incredibly strong," states Mark Nappa, Chief Sales Officer for Kirkwood. Nappa clarifies, "But what customers want is the highest quality print collateral at a reasonable cost. Our new Speedmaster XL 106 8-Color Press is ideal to fulfill that need." Nappa continues, "Because the new perfecting press can print on both sides of a sheet of paper in a single pass, we'll be able to gain greater efficiencies, giving Kirkwood the ability to take on more work."

Bill Rizzo to Retire from Kirkwood
Picture
WILMINGTON, MA – August 3, 2021
Bill Rizzo, Strategic Account Manager, has announced his retirement from Kirkwood after 15 years.  Bill has been in the graphic arts industry since the 80’s, and throughout his career he has represented many companies in New England.  Names like Penmore, Pride Printers and Ben Franklin Smith Printers are just a few of the companies which benefitted from Bill’s hard work and expertise.

“It has been an honor to be part of the Kirkwood team for the last 15 years.  I loved my career and that I was able to work independently at Kirkwood.  It never felt as though I had a boss, I was always included as a collaborator, not just an employee. I have been fortunate enough to be part of a team that was always rowing in the same direction” reports Bill Rizzo.

Retirement usually comes with the compulsory review of one’s career, including thanking colleagues and bosses along the way. In Bill’s case, preparation for retirement included reaching out to a few hundred customers to thank them for everything along his career path. Bill’s efforts in finding customers as far back as the 80’s, led him to write some a thank you card and reach others via social media.  Many of his old customers had the same sentiment, they knew if they gave him a project, they did not have to worry.

“We wish Bill all the best for a relaxing, fun filled retirement,” stated Bob Coppinger, CEO.  “He has been a wonderful part of our organization, throughout the past 15 years.  Kirkwood will miss his professionalism and attention to detail.  Bill’s shoes will be hard to fill.”

In Bill’s retirement, he will be spending time, fishing, golfing, playing music and planning camping trips.  He will also be spending time with his wife Nancy.

Bob Riseman to retire from Kirkwood after 43 years in the printing Industry

Picture
March 2019

The date we at Kirkwood have feared, yet anticipated, for years is finally upon us: Bob Riseman is retiring.

Bob’s passion to deliver for his customers is the legacy he leaves our team, who embrace his dedicated approach that grew not only his business but our deep community of devoted clients. Bob’s groundbreaking work in identifying what the customer needed before the customer knew they needed it has had a significant effect on the success of the team he was a part of. “There were so many moving parts in the printing business, I was able to participate in the creative process and learn how to shepherd projects through. I really enjoyed teaching and mentoring the business to graphic designers,” said Riseman.

When Bob joined Kirkwood in 2005, he had already had an extensive, 29 year career in the printing business. Riseman began his career selling office supplies for Monroe Stationers & Printers, later Moore where Bob sold business forms. In the 1980s he moved to Adco and began to sell commercial printing. During these early years, Bob worked for many companies, including Congraf, Nimrod, and Universal. It was during this time that he fell in love with the business, just as it was rapidly evolving. “So many of the companies I worked for were gobbled up during the late 80s and early 90s by acquisition. I was happy to land at Kirkwood, knowing these guys would never go down that road,” said Riseman.
Recounting all the years in the business, Bob spoke about the “olden days,” when the Scitex scanner used to scan a photo looked like something from “Buck Rogers.” “The business has changed so quickly – I will be interested in seeing what happens in the next few years.”

Bob's attention to detail, while keeping the broader picture in mind, has been invaluable to Kirkwood. His willingness to put in extra time and effort to help us meet deadlines has demonstrated a commitment to excellence that his loyal customers have come to depend upon. We all owe Bob a debt of gratitude for all the times he helped keep projects on track, on time and within their budget. In addition to his incredible competence and skill, he has been a friend to all with his thoughtfulness, humor and encouragement.

“He’s a very positive spirit, always up for a great conversation,” said Mark Nappa, Kirkwood Chief Sales Officer. “There will be a void without him; he’s a pillar here at Kirkwood. Everybody knows him. Everybody loves him.”

Retirement will surely offer many new opportunities, which Bob will embrace wholeheartedly.  Bob says he can now stop checking his email at 8:00pm and exhale, being able to spend time with his wife and two children. Although Bob insists, he will not be putting his feet in the sand – not just yet.
